Our Staff

Pastor - Grover Blackburn

Grover has served as pastor of Angier Baptist Church since March of 1994. His work focuses on leading the church to discern and pursue its mission, preaching, teaching, and providing pastoral care. He is a graduate of Campbell University (B.A., Religion), Southeastern (M. Div), Duke (CPE), and Wake Forest-Babcock School  (CM). He is married to Rebecca (Becky) Long Blackburn, and they have three children. Jonathan graduated from Campbell University in 2005, Hunter graduated from Appalachian StateUniversity in 2007, and Lauren is a sophomore at Campbell University.

Associate Pastor - Allison Collier

Allison began her ministry with Angier Baptist Church in February 2005. She recieved her BA from Campbell University in 2005 and her M.Div from Campbell University Divinity School in 2008. Along with her husband, Jared, they strive to create an atmosphere that is conducive to studying the bible, deepening our faith, and discipling students to walk in the way that Jesus taught, all in a fun and loving environment. Allison is the proud mother of Josiah Michael Collier.

Co-Children's Minister - Susan Surles

In January 2005, Susan became the children's minister at Angier Baptist Church. She is a graduate of Peace College and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where she received a degree in early childhood education. Susan has taught first, second, and third grades for 11 years and is currently teaching reading part time at North Harnett School. She is married to Hugh Surles of Angier and has a daughter, Molly.

Susan has recently written her first book, "Lizzie's Great Adventure" in which all proceeds will go to the children's programs at Angier Baptist Church.

Choir Director - Barbara Hudson

Barbara has enjoyed service at Angier Baptist since 1995. In addition to the Chancel Choir, she directs 2 hand bell choirs, the senior adult (Golden Gems) and youth choirs. She received Bachelor and Masters Degrees in Music from UNC-Greensboro and has taught in Campbell University's Music Department since 1985. Married to Chris since 1987, Barbara is proud to be the mother of Alex, Zadok and Carrie Anna. 

Financial Secretary - Sonnie Matthews

Sonnie Matthews began her ministry at Angier Baptist Church in December of 1981. She serves as Administrative Assistant, Financial Secretary, Secretary to the Pastor and is a friend to all the church family at Angier Baptist. She is married to Glenn and they have two children, Tonya and Nicholas. Tonya is married to Rodney Godwin and they reside in Seven Lakes, NC with their two children, Kori and Kain. Nicholas is married to Jennifer Orr Matthews and their home is in Cary.

Office Secretary - Glenda Johnson

Glenda Dupree Johnson attended Angier Baptist Church as a child. She was baptized and married in this church before moving to Raleigh where she lived and worked with Nationwide Insurance until her retirement after 37 years of service. She and her husband, Glenn Randall, returned back home to Angier in 1998. They have one son. Randy, and his wife Angela live in Raleigh and have two children, Hunter who is 10 and Hannah who is 2.

Tom Cochrane – Custodian/Grounds Keeper

Tom has worked at Angier Baptist Church for over ten years. He does a great job and is loved by everyone. He willingly gives of his time and talents to keep the church looking beautiful each day. He lives with his wife Joanne and enjoys spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Lynne Wilkerson -Administrative Assistant

Lynne Wilkerson began her ministry at Angier Baptist In April of 2010. She enjoys planting flowers in the garden, socializing with friends, playing with animals, and spending time with her husband Troy. In the past Lynne has served as a meeting planner with great coordinating skils, organization, and administrative tasks. Welcome Lynne!

Kim East - Co-Children's Minister

Kim East is serving as Co-Children's Minister to Kindergarten through 5th grade. Kim works with the RA's, GA's, and Mission Friends as well as helping out with local projects and food drives. She lives here in Angier with her husband Mike and her two daughters Jessica and Kayla.
