Angier Baptist Church, Angier, North Carolina

Woman's Missionary Union

Vision Statement
"Challenges Christian believers to understand and be radically involved in the mission of God."

WMU's focus mission, through age level groups and congregational activities, helps our church fulfill God's mission for His people and do the work of missions within its reach. This mission focus results in church members having a Christ-like concern for people of every culture, ethnicity, and nation.

This radical involvement happens as WMU in our church leads people-

  • to experience missions personally through ministry and witness,
  • to develop mission awareness,
  • to support mission work through prayer and giving, and
  • nurture lifestyles that reflect commitment and obedience to the Great Commission.

What is WMU?   A mission organization for Women on Mission (WOM).  Women in our church aged 18 and up.  Through WOM, a woman can recognize her status in Christ and reach beyond herself to a global vision as she fulfills Christ's mission purpose.

Who can be a member?   Any woman can be a member.

What do WOM groups do?  Groups are formed around a common need, interest, lifestyle, or mission purpose.  They usually give their group a creative name.

  • women who share similar lifestyles enjoy sharing joys, problems and spiritual truths as they become involved in missions
  • shared interest can provide fellowship, ministry, and witness and an entry point for unchurched women
  • women grow spiritually as they apply scriptural mission concepts
  • women pray for missions, for church mission involvement, and for people who are not yet Christians

What about WOM meetings?   The groups usually meet once a month, but meeting times and schedules may vary according to the purpose of the group and preferences.  Several times during the year, general meeting are held for all WMU groups/all the women in our church.  We meet to share what God is doing in our lives.

Where can groups find ideas?   Mission Mosaic is a monthly magazine that provides timely articles with a mission focus for women.  It also includes the birthdays of our missionaries for whom we should pray for daily.

Change?  You can change almost any thing, but the principles of WMU do not change.

  • pray for and give to missions
  • do missions
  • learn about missions
  • grow spiritually toward a mission lifestyle
  • participate in the work of the church and the denomination

WMU missions organizations and activities focus on one or more of these principles.  Underlying everything that is done in the name of WMU and missions is the realization that Christian believers must obey the command of Jesus to make disciples of all peoples.
